Updated! Transportation considerations for the 2014 TR2NB40

on Wed, 12/22/2010 - 19:00

As in all of our FreeWalkers walking events, we try to accommodate mass transportation as much as possible. In this particular event, we'll start at the Trenton Transit Center. There is parking there and a NY train that arrives at 6:44 a.m. which can accommodate passengers from other stations, like Newark and Metropark, along the way. The endpoint of the walk, New Brunswick has parking right across from station and has good rail service. Better yet, it appears the parking meters are in effect Mon-Fri and parking on the street should be free! NOTE: We expect to have East Coast Greenway staff assisting us again this year. Read on for more details on getting around.

FreeWalkers to Walk Across New Jersey Again in 2012 on the East Coast Greenway

The FreeWalkers and the East Coast Greenway invite the Public to Walk the 100-mile Cross-Jersey Walking Challenge in 2012 - Starting with the “Great Canal Walk” on April 7th. Hoping to repeat and expand the Cross-Jersey Walking Challenge in 2012, the FreeWalkers are offering, for the second year in a row, a challenge to the public to walk across New Jersey in 2012. The program consists of walking 100 miles across the entire state – from Trenton to New York City within the next 12 months.

Organization Hosts Mile-Long Walks

FreeWalkers Organization members will be walking more than 100 miles across the state in the next two months to promote walking as a fitness exercise. The event is open for anyone who wants to participate and is free of charge,..." "FreeWalkers Organization has 250 online members since its start last year", Kiczek said. Kiczek is anticipating about 100 participants for the 100-mile Great Canal Walk, but expects more people to sign up once when it comes closer to the event.

Got Sneakers? We're Walking Across Jersey

As a Jersey girl from way back, who remembers when Parkway tolls were a quarter and still reads the instructions on the pump when I get my own gas in other places, I've seen a lot of my home state. I hit Route 17 the day I received my driver's license in Lodi, and I've been behind the wheel ever since. The next several weekends will be different, as I've traded car keys (and beloved flip-flops) for serious walking shoes.

Geat Canal Walk Practice Walks Scheduled for March

The FreeWalkers recently announced two practice walks this month in anticipation of the Great Canal Walk (http://TR2NB40.org) on April 9, 2011. Practice walks are informal group walks used to prepare the group for longer, more challenging events. The walks serve the purpose of conditioning walkers for the future event and for planning resources and stops along the way, The first practice walk is scheduled for Sunday, March 20th starting in Trenton and ending in Princeton will be about 12 miles and taake about 4 hours at a comfortable pace.. The second, goes from Princeton to Bound Brook and is a 16 to 20 mile trek taking up to 6 hours. Walkers partiipating int he practice walks will get a good feeling of the trail for the final 40-mile event as well as test their endurance.
