Join Us for Two Great Walks for 2017

Both the Spring Ahead (March 19) and Great Canal Walk (April 8) are coming soon! The Spring Ahead Walk is a comfortable 12-miler (half-day) starting in Trenton and ending in Princeton. The Great Canal Walk this year will start officially in Princeton and continue for 28 miles ending in New Brunswick. However, you can choose to walk the entire 40 miles from Trenton to New Brunswick if you desire that special challenge. In total, we'll cover the same 40 miles we've been doing for the last 7 years but in one or two events. For those not familiar with the course, it's almost all on the Delaware & Raritan Canal towpath and which happens to be a major leg of the East Coast Greenway.

The first event, Spring Ahead Walk (Sunday March 19, 2017), is a popular one, as we shake out our winter blues and get moving again. Many who walk this event will start the Great Canal Walk a few weeks later where they left off in Princeton walking the other 28 miles for a total of 40 miles!

For the Great Canal Walk on April 8 we are once again fortunate to have support provided of the East Coast Greenway. This event always draws an interesting and enthusiastic group of walkers for this inspirational walk along a great piece of Jersey beauty and history. AfterWalk Re-Fueling @ New Brunswick  for 2017 - we are planning a final stop at the Timulty's Pub 361 George St., a couple blocs from the train station. This has been our traditional ending place to re-fuel. Dutch treat. But everyone is welcome.

Updated! Transportation considerations for the 2014 TR2NB40

on Wed, 12/22/2010 - 19:00

As in all of our FreeWalkers walking events, we try to accommodate mass transportation as much as possible. In this particular event, we'll start at the Trenton Transit Center. There is parking there and a NY train that arrives at 6:44 a.m. which can accommodate passengers from other stations, like Newark and Metropark, along the way. The endpoint of the walk, New Brunswick has parking right across from station and has good rail service. Better yet, it appears the parking meters are in effect Mon-Fri and parking on the street should be free! NOTE: We expect to have East Coast Greenway staff assisting us again this year. Read on for more details on getting around.

Log for TR2NB40 - 4/9/11 - Great Canal Walk

With a shifting weather forecast it was hard to say how this day would turn out when I got up at 4:00 a.m. The day before had been rainy. The trail could be muddy. But for now there was nothing stopping the assault of our feet on the great D&R Canal. When combining distance and number of walkers this would be like no event in this historical and pastoral area of New Jersey.

Car parking in the 24-hour garage across from the New Brunswick station was easy.

Great Walk Along a Great Canal

Wednesday, April 13 by silvia, West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance

Hats off to all 50 or so people who took part in TR2NB40 — a 40-mile walk from Trenton to New Brunswick along the D&R Canal on Saturday. Not all walked the entire route, but it sounds like everyone had a good time. We received two reports, one from WWBPA trustee Michael Ogg and another from WWBPA member Loretta Rice.

“It was fun talking with others and learning about other walks such as The Great Saunter on May 7, a walk round Manhattan.
